People who shape special modeling balloons (Qualatex or Bellatex balloons) into different shapes, mostly animal shapes, are known as Balloon Twisters. They are also known as Balloon Benders and Balloon Artists. Our Twisters, from Face Painting Illusions and Balloon Art, often perform in Salt Lake City restaurants, Summit County or Park City; for birthday parties in the Utah County region and other areas along the Wasatch Front. They also twist at places like the Utah County Fair, and other public and private events in places such as Thanksgiving Point, Days of 47 Parade and Cornbelly Maze. Other functions would include celebrations, grand openings, street fairs, reunions, end-of-school-year activities or corporate activities, as in summer BBQ and picnics. A few of our clients are in Wyoming.

There is the “single balloon modeling” where a balloon twister restricts the creation to the use of one balloon per model, and then there is the “multiple balloon modeling”, which uses more than one balloon. This requires an intermediate or advanced skill level that we have developed over the past 8 years. Single balloon modeling would include a basic four-legged animal that has three locking twists, a monkey, bear, elephant, sword, or a gun. Multiple balloons would include: princess characters as in Ariel, Cinderella, Jasmine, Repunzel, Tinkerbell, and Snow White. Other girl modeling twists would be flowers, butterflies, poodles, parrot or swans. The boys have Spiderman and other Marvel characters, along with bazooka guns, snakes, dinosaurs, monkey on a palm tree, penguins, octopus, and spiders.

Balloons come in an assortment of sizes and colors. There are also premade shape forms as in “bee bodies”, “heart”, geods. They originally were blown up by mouth. And a matter of fact, it was almost a requirement to blow up the balloons by mouth to be a balloon twister. Most twisters use other means via a hand pump, a floor pump, electric compressor, or a bicycle pump. Balloons are not for young babies. Please be wise in caring for balloons with toddlers.
